Zong launches Z Wallet inside its app, using Zindigi's banking licence
The telecom operator is back in digital money with a wallet for its 22 million monthly app users, built on JS Bank's Zindigi rather than a licence of its own.

Zong has launched Z Wallet, a digital wallet built into its My Zong app, in partnership with Zindigi, the digital arm of JS Bank. The company announced the launch on 17 August 2026.
The wallet runs on Zindigi's banking as a service infrastructure and operates under the State Bank of Pakistan's regulatory framework. Zong itself holds no payments licence in this arrangement. The My Zong app has more than 22 million monthly active users, who can reach the service without installing a separate banking app.
At launch, users can send money to any Pakistani bank through Raast, pay utility and internet bills, and top up their mobile balance, all with one login and PIN. Zong said nano lending, a Z Debit Card and specialised Zong bundles will follow.
According to the launch statement, about 22,000 verified wallets had been opened and more than 12,000 transactions processed in the weeks after a soft launch, before any large marketing spend. The app also gains more than 500,000 downloads a month.
A second attempt at mobile money
The move marks a return to the field for Zong. TechJuice noted that the operator surrendered its electronic money institution licence in October 2023 and shut down its PayMax service, which had been the only commercially live licence of that kind. Zong and Zindigi signed a memorandum of understanding in March 2024, and widened the partnership in August 2025 to cover government payments.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar attended the launch. Zong said the project reflects its shift from a traditional telecom operator to a broader technology services business.
“Pakistan's digital transformation must translate into greater access, opportunity and convenience for its citizens.”
